My Book Review: Lowcountry Incantations Book One

Spirits, Secrets and Serial Killers

The summary of the book is as follows: A young woman down on her luck. A ghost desperate for help. Can the two come together before another body drops? Beneath the bustling town squares and the low-hanging Spanish moss in Savannah, GA, lie secrets, murder, and dark magic. But for Quinn Riley, the seedy underbelly may as well be worlds away. Her worries are ordinary: finding a new job after getting laid off, paying the bills, and figuring out where she’s going. That is, until one rainy afternoon, when her attempt to rescue a trembling dog puts her in the path of a moving car, a months-long coma, and an awakening to a strange new life.

As Quinn will soon discover that waking up was the easy part. What comes next will be a series of blackouts and visions of a young woman in grave peril, forever changing who she is and who she’s going to be. But with the help of her loving sister Mallory, a handsome and mysterious photographer named Caleb, and a few unexpected new allies, Quinn will learn that solidarity, friendship, and a bit of magic can stand up to the absolute worst the low country has to offer...or can it?

This is one of the first paranormal mystery/thriller books I’ve read. The main character, Quinn, is a struggling young woman down on her luck. When an act of bravery on her part leaves her in a coma, her return is accompanied by visions of violence and murder. As she does her best to find a normal life, she is met with a chance at finding love, a new job opportunity and a persistent ghost. The twists and turns are many, and by the end, a helpful witch, her companion ghost, and her ongoing visions become the least of her worries. I recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal mysteries and thrillers. It was well-written and very enjoyable.
